“The idea that we somehow have a certain amount of potential that we must live up to is a complete crock. People who say they are not living up to their potential do not understand what living means.” -Penelope Trunk (taken from her insightful & candid post on Living up to your potential is BS)
What does it mean to not live up to your potential? Is this a good or helpful mindset?
To not live up to your potential implies that you are currently not meeting or exceeding self imposed assumptions or expectations by others.
Is it possible, that if you are not living up to said potential, it is more a matter that you are making daily choices that are not in the best interest of yourself or others?
Perhaps it is time to take responsibility over your potential, and evaluate what you are currently doing with your today. Are you so focused on tomorrow or what could have been, that you forgot the potential of today?
Is it recognition that you seek or doing good? Really, what are your motivations, your frustrations? Are you living in a world of excuses and woe as me’s?
Are you placing undue burdens on others based on your expectations of you/ them? Are you being realistic with yourself and gracious and compassionate towards others?
What are the unspoken goals or dreams that have not been fulfilled? What is one thing you can do today to move you and others forward?
