“My inner critic was focusing on the reactions of other people: the desire to please them, the hope of meeting their (imagined) expectations, the fear of anticipated criticism
I took a deep breath, and shifted focus.”- Joanna Young
Had I not stumbled across this post by Joanna Young on Friday, I would have missed out on a lot of opportunities in my photography class. I was so focused on what I was not, that I forgot what the point of taking the class was.
What was the purpose for taking photos? Why do I enjoy taking photos?
My purpose was strengthened and resolved, and my heart was set at ease through these conclusions (some were directly inspired by Joanna- thank you!):
- To be mindful of each situation
- To notice the details in a bigger story
- To bring the details together to capture what I am feeling or experiencing
- To express my gratitude in those around me or my environment
- To take a risk and step outside of my comfort zone
(Side note: For anyone interested in taking a photography class in Nashville, Dove Wedding Photography is a great place to get started. Whitney has the ability to bring out your personality and perspective, while fine tuning your mechanics and understanding. She opened the world around me, to find beauty and light in the ordinary. She teaches without pretense, and finds great joy in watching you grow. The value of what I have learned, the confidence and practical experience that I now hold is well worth the two day class. Thanks Whitney, Audrey & Peter for making this such an enjoyable experience!)

Thank you so much for sharing this. It is wonderful how we can learn and share together isn’t it? Your words here mean a great deal to me.
Thank you.
Thanks again Joanna. You have been a great source of encouragement and inspiration. I enjoy following your pictures & blog.
